Joy, Love and a Home… It’s all they want this Christmas

In our 130th anniversary year, 2016 has seen some great achievements at The Mayhew and we’ve been able to help hundreds of dogs, cats and their carers – something that is only possible because of your support.

Please do spare a thought for the animals spending Christmas at The Mayhew. A donation could help keep them happy and comfortable as they wait patiently for their forever homes.

We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Boxing Day puppies

Sky, Pearl and Leo, three defenceless puppies aged between 10 and 12 weeks old, were left out in the freezing cold and rain on Boxing Day with only cardboard for shelter. Scared, alone and in an appalling condition, the puppies were dumped in an open box and left for dead by the side of the road. Luckily they were brought into the safety of our care just in time. Our Vet Team treated them for lice, fleas and worms right away before they were settled into a quiet kennel with plenty of food, water and comfort. The lovable puppies began to show their individual personalities and after 12 weeks of being cared for by The Mayhew, they finally got their Christmas wish and were happily rehomed by our adoption team.

Bocing Day Puppies

Leo, now named Mr Wuffa by his new forever family, recently sent us a photo taken on his first birthday. This now happy-go-lucky boy may never have seen this day had it not been for our intervention.

Three little Kittens

Three tiny four week old kittens were brought into The Mayhew Animal Home after being found abandoned in a box on the street, covered in maggots and diarrhoea. Our Vet Team got straight to work by cleaning their wounds and giving them plenty of fluids and antibiotics. After receiving medical treatment from our vets and lots of love and attention from our Cattery Team, the kittens, who we named Cherry, Raspberry and Blackcurrant, started to show off their playful nature. As soon as they were a healthy weight, maggot free and neutered, they went on to find their loving forever home.

Sophie’s story

Life for a street dog is hard. Poor Sophie was found two weeks before Christmas riddled with worms near a bus stop at only 13 weeks old. For a puppy like Sophie this was a very sad start to life, but one that is all too common on the streets of Georgia. Starving and alone, Sophie struggled to survive on the streets by begging for food from strangers, but instead of helping they were throwing stones at her to make her go away. Sweet-natured Sophie was taken in by Dog Organization Georgia, who we sponsor, and soon rehomed so she never had to go back to a life on the streets.
