A mother cat and her four kittens were dumped on The Mayhew’s doorstep last month, crammed into a cat carrier. Our Animal Welfare Officers found them in the morning outside the building and brought them inside immediately. When we opened the carrier the mum and kittens, just a few weeks old, were clearly very distressed at being confined in such a small space overnight.
Cilla was distressed when we found her
We named the mum Cilla after the late Cilla Black and the kittens Ellen, Bobby, Jack and Robert after her children. Cilla was very stressed when we found her and was panting but thankfully all four kittens were in good health apart from also being shaken up by their ordeal. Our Animal Welfare Officers settled all five of them into a quiet cabin in our cattery with some food to help them feel calm, safe and secure.
They have since been neutered and vaccinated in our vet clinic and Cilla and all four gorgeous kittens have been happily rehomed and are enjoying life with their new families.
Jack and Ellen (now called Claudius and Cassandra) having a snooze in their new home
This year our Animal Welfare Officers have found and rescued over 180 abandoned kittens. By making a donation you can help our Animal Welfare Officers rescue and help more neglected and abandoned animals every day.
