Fundraise for the Month of May-hew!

At The Mayhew we are holding a special May-hew fundraising month when our supporters will be raising funds to help us help more animals in need.

Money raised during May will go towards the crucial help that our Animal Welfare Officers give to unwanted, abused and neglected animals as well as supporting vulnerable pet owners who are in difficulty to look after and keep their pets. Our Officers also support the homeless and their dogs all year round and prevent animal welfare issues arising in the first place through their community programmes and education – which means that animals don’t end up in a shelter like ours.

It costs on average £271 per day for our Animal Welfare Officers to carry out their vital work. We want to inspire our community to help us cover their costs throughout May so we’re aiming to raise £8401.

Since 2000, our Animal Welfare Officers have been working tirelessly in the London community and their work wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our supporters.

Update: Your fantastic fundraising efforts have already raised over £900 to go towards the Month of May-hew fundraising total! Keep on reading to see how you can still keep on raising those vital funds…

How to join the Month of May-hew?

Join us and donate via our JustGiving page. You can also share with us on social media using the hashtag #MonthOfMayhew and join up with other Mayhew supporters on our Facebook fundraising group.

We’d love our generous supporters to arrange their own fundraising activities or events with friends, family, work colleagues and fellow cat and dog lovers during May. You can be as simple, spontaneous, ingenious and original as you like to raise money for us. Here are a few ideas to get you in the fundraising mood:

    • Local dog walking meet-up with friends, family and fellow dog walkers
    • A day or night of fun in dog friendly pubs
    • Cat lovers coffee morning meet up
    • Have a 3 course meal at 3 different dog friendly venues
    • Host your own tea or dinner party
    • Have a collection box at your work
    • Get sponsored to give up something you love in May
    • Hold a bring and buy sale/garage sale/car boot sale

We’re also encouraging London organisations, community groups, schools, universities, cubs and scouts to raise money and join in the fun, so get in touch!

    Fundraising events

Our supporters have already arranged some fantastic events during Month of May-hew including:

    • Poleen’s Animal Flow Yoga Event – 6th May 2017, 2-4pm, Nuffield Health Covent Garden
    • Gaucho’s Doggy Sunday Lunch – Sunday 7th May 2017
    • Pets at Home Greenford Adoption Drive –  Saturday 13th May 2017
    • Woof Woof Meow Meow Comedy Show at The Mayhew. Tuesday 30th May 2017. Buy your tickets here
    • Harris + Hoole, a chain of artisan coffee shops, will be fundraising from 1st May at their Kensington shop with collections and a lucky dip
    • Purple Bone, a boutique and grooming store, will be donating 10% of their online sales on the 25th May to The Mayhew

Why not come along and meet our Animal Welfare Officers in person, bring your dog and get free microchipping too! They’ll be at Regents Park on 6th May 2017. You can also come along to support us at our popular Open Day event on Sunday 21st May 2017. It’s a celebratory street party packed with entertainment, music, stalls, drinks and a BBQ and you’ll be able to see behind-the-scenes and meet and talk with Mayhew staff.

If you prefer to do something physical instead, how about signing up to one of our running and challenge events with friends.

Donate to help our Animal Welfare Officers

If you don’t have the time or energy to organise something, you can simply donate to help our Animal Welfare Officers so that they can rescue animals and offer the much-needed support to pet owners.  Below are costs to give you an idea of how your money can help.

    • £44         could help provide shelter for a dog in our kennel for a day
    • £48         could help keep a cat cosy in our cattery for the day
    • £85         could help us to Trap, Neuter and Return a feral cat
    • £100       could help us Pick & Snip (pick up, neuter and return) a cat belonging to a vulnerable person
    • £100       could buy a microchip scanner to help us reunite lost animals with their owners
    • £150       could help our work with homeless people and their animal companions; providing free microchipping, dog food, collars and leads and neutering
    • £175       could help a pet owner by caring for their dog during a personal crisis with our Pet Refuge programme
    • £750       could keep one of our animal ambulances running for 6 months

And finally, we’d love to help. So if you have a fundraising idea and need support, call our fundraising team on 020 8206 5877 or email [email protected]
