Two 6-month-old kittens were recently brought into Mayhew after they had been found living behind a bin for a few weeks. On arrival, our Animal Welfare Officers checked over the kittens who were both very friendly, although they weren’t microchipped or neutered.
As Halloween is approaching, we named the kittens Wednesday (a black female) and Fester (a tabby and white male) after the characters from the spooky film The Addams Family.
Sadly, many people don’t realise the full responsibility of taking on a pet and the needs of an animal, and as a result they struggle to look after them. We suspect that little Wednesday and Fester had been abandoned and left to fend for themselves on the street.
At Mayhew we are dedicated to helping people in crisis situations and we urge pet owners to come to us if they need help caring for their animal, rather than abandoning them. We do not judge and we are here to assist and advise on the best course of action for the animal, no matter what the problem is.
Both kittens were riddled with fleas but after a thorough health-check by our Vet Team, they were otherwise in good health. They were treated for fleas and worms, neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, as well as receiving lots of love and cuddles from our Cattery team. It didn’t take long before they were adopted by their new forever family and Wednesday and Fester are now happy, safe and warm in a loving home this Halloween.
Mayhew’s Animal Welfare Officers and Vet Team respond to hundreds of abandoned, neglected and abused animals every year and provide ongoing support to carers and pet owners in vulnerable situations.
